PLOT SUMMARY:
The first in the Practical Potions series.
Sella is tired of being a failure.
She has a lovely, cozy shop—an heirloom from her mother—, a snarky feline familiar, and one, single friend to call her own. It should be enough. But Sella’s magical abilities left a stain on her hometown, and even years away didn’t repair her reputation. The life of a kitchen witch is rough when everyone thinks Sella’s magical blends of coffee and tea will leave them with boils instead of the intended “motivation” or “self-compassion.”
But when a murder shakes the town and Sella’s best friend becomes suspect one, failure is a luxury they can’t afford. Luckily, the murdered woman—a confident ghost with a fiery determination for justice—is ready to help… and she’s more than Sella ever bargained for. With her friends, her familiar, and a bit of magic, Sella is ready to prove herself once and for all.
Although, perhaps she should brew a strong cup of “courage” first.
Just in case.

MY REVIEW: A beautifully written found family fantasy book with lots of lovable characters, a cozy vibe, and no lack of adventure. I absolutely adored the main character, Sella. Her struggles with her anxiety felt so realistic in how they affected her as a person, including her thoughts and actions. The other main characters and supporting cast were so much fun. A snarky cat for a familiar? A ghost with a sense of humor? The worldbuilding and magic system were super interesting as well. The idea of a kitchen witch and how she uses her power was so unique. One of my favorite parts was Sella's relationship with her mother. It added so much emotional depth to the story that I continue to think about it long after reading. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

MY REVIEW: A fast-paced adventure. I really enjoyed this book. There is a lot of action with a nice balance of quiet character moments. Each of the main characters had interesting arcs with their pasts realistically impacting their decisions and reactions to events. The worldbuilding in this post-disaster landscape felt grounded in existing governments, fitting for the genre of this trilogy. All of the villains were nefarious (and a little funny) in their own ways. The dialogue flowed perfectly through each type of conversation. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

MY REVIEW: This book was a cozy fantasy adventure with a lovable cast. I adore the world that the author has created. It has the beauty and magic of an animated film with the complexity of plot and emotion that an adult audience would enjoy. The characters are faced with multiple mysteries that they must work together to unravel - both personal and a threat that endangers their homes. I loved the representation of different types of relationships in this book. The connections the characters have (family, friends, romantic) are all so heart-warming. MY REVIEW: A new world of classic fantasy. Second Soul introduces a lovable cast of characters with a unique magic system and intricate worldbuilding. There are mystery elements as well that start off the main character's story with an emotional arc that carries throughout. I really enjoyed the relationships the MC, Callum, has and develops with the other characters. The banter between him and his mentor was fantastic and truly made me laugh. I appreciated the amount of thought and planning that went into the worldbuilding. (The details of a currency system that denotes value by sides like dice was super clever.) I adored Lomen and his sweet personality. The bond that he and Callum formed was so sweet as they shared their knowledge of magic. The differences and similarities between their cultures being a bridge between them was a nice way to have the characters grow closer while making the world of Second Soul larger than the lands the two were traveling. The third main character, Wren, had a mysterious backstory of her own. I like her sharp personality and the way her story introduced us to another group and their system of ruling. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

PLOT SUMMARY:
In the first book of the Farodun Down series, Farodun is an adolescent Human boy growing up on Ilex. This outcast moon of Aylini Gynth is nothing like its lovely sisters, Ieus and Farodunus, and its treacherous, geologically young terrain and fearsome fauna seem to lie in wait just beyond its cities’ limits. Meanwhile, systemic neglect and corruption have allowed organized crime to take root here, leaving little burgs like Farodun’s hometown vulnerable.
When Farodun wakes to find he has been left for dead in one of Ilex’s infamous acid swallets, he vows vengeance against those who put him there— if only he can escape the perilous sinkhole. It seems unlikely at best, that is, until he is rescued by a stranger whose motives are as opaque as their armor. He can only hope for a small mercy; that this newcomer is friend not foe, and that his situation has not merely progressed from bad to worse.
Farodun soon finds the past colliding with his present, threatening everything he has ever known. Follow him as he navigates a path carved by history of strife to forge his future.
With 27 original illustrations, a comprehensive glossary, and more bonus content that brings the lore and landscapes of Farodun’s world to life, Moon, Have Mercy is a journey of survival, perseverance, and the Human desire for home.

MY REVIEW: I absolutely loved this book. The introduction to our main character and his world was so clever, I was immediately drawn into the story. Lessons of a "Bill Nye" type host runs through Farodun's mind as he tries to make sense of the dangerous predicament he finds himself in. This idea also helped establish the character's age. It is rare for me to enjoy following a young protagonist, but Farodun was so realistically written that I couldn't help but care for him. All of the main characters are lovable with their own strengths, mysteries, pasts, and problems. It is impossible to pick a favorite. I really enjoyed learning more about Ed and loved the plot twists that happened with their storyline. There is a nice balance of action and emotional moments, with plenty of high tension scenes. The worldbuilding of this novel is complex, complete with its own glossary. As a reader who is a bit slow to pick up on names and places, I really appreciated this extra effort. There are also beautiful illustrations at the end of each chapter. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

MY REVIEW: Dante the reaper has a crisis of faith and identity when faced with just how many of the souls he collects are sent to a terrible afterlife. He defies the role he is expected to play and sent on a journey into the underworld where he meets a complex cast of other lost souls. I loved the author's vision of this world. It felt both desolate and haunting, with threats lurking around every corner. I enjoyed the horror film vibe the central adventure had. The characters felt like they had been plucked out of a horror movie featuring 2000s-era college students who took a wrong turn and now have no choice but to work together to survive. I really liked the combination of the author's ideas with existing myths and religion. The characters' conflicts, both internal and between each other, felt very realistic and fitting for the situations they were in. I loved how so many themes of the story tied together at the end. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

MY REVIEW: A perfect cozy and magical story for fall. This book was such an enjoyable read and a great start to my autumn TBR. I loved the world that the author created. Welkin was a very interesting land and I wouldn't hesitate to explore it further if there is a future book written in the same setting. The characters were all lovable. There was a great balance between the cozy and mystery elements of the story. While there were high stakes for the characters, this was not a stressful read. My favorite aspect was the complicated family dynamics and how the characters had to face whether the past would determine their respective futures.

MY REVIEW: A memorable superhero epic that combines unique worldbuilding with complex characters. I absolutely loved this book and the world the author has created. It takes place in the aftermath of a nuclear war that resulted in superhero abilities. The background of this conflict set the stage for the cast, creating a dangerous and oppressive system to navigate at its core. This book explores many difficult topics with care. I enjoyed following the characters on their individual, and collective, journeys. The romance element was sweet while not shying away from the trauma the characters had faced.
Other items of note:
- The quotes used at the beginning of each chapter were absolutely perfect. They fit the themes of the book and individual chapters.
- I adored the found family trope.

PLOT SUMMARY:
Pippi Jennings has always been able to see ghosts, who she found to be rather friendly beings that listen politely to family conversations and occasionally borrow a sock from the dryer. She was the natural choice to inherit her recently-departed aunt’s inn, a popular vacation spot in Windia, Oregon where spirits go on holiday before moving onto the afterlife. When her aunt returns (reincarnated as a talking fox, no less) to help her niece manage an inn that literally has a mind of its own, Pippi finds her days filled with organizing excursions to ghost nightclubs, hosting midnight teas, maintaining harmony with the giant attic spiders, and most importantly, connecting the spirit guests with their living loved ones when they call the inn’s old rotary phone.
When the dashing yet delightfully unconventional ghost hunter Cecil Graham books a room at the strictly-no-living-allowed inn, Pippi finds herself drawn to him, even as he's determined to unearth the paranormal secrets of one of Oregon's "most haunted locations." Although dedicated to protecting her guests at all costs, Pippi is torn between duty and the love she’s found in someone who understands her world more than anyone has before.
Join Pippi in her first year as the Windia Inn’s proprietress, as she learns to operate a sentient inn, tend to the needs of her spirit guests, and balance a life she’s still living.

I enjoyed following Pippi as she embraced her new role as innkeeper, while still finding ways to be true to herself. The worldbuilding of this novel was so much fun. The attic spiders were a personal favorite. They had so much personality for characters with no lines. The romance element of this book does not overshadow any of the other major plot elements. I usually find that when a romance is introduced, it takes center stage. Pippi and Cecil's relationship was a piece of the puzzle, rather than the entire picture. There were so many surprises in this book that took it in unexpected directions. I appreciated that Pippi's relationships with family members, while loving and supportive, still had some rough edges. There was a unique take on psychic abilities that had me hooked from the beginning. It really helped ground us in the main character's POV, his struggles, and the supernatural magic of this world. Despite such a massive conflict at hand (good vs. evil), this was still a strong found family story. I enjoyed the supporting characters and how they added their own perspectives and skills. Love is a major theme of this novel and it carries through to the very end. I'm looking forward to reading the author's other works.

MY REVIEW: Some of the fantasy genres "greatest hits" brought into a new world for adults struggling to understand their place in the universe. I loved how the author used classic fantasy tropes in her work. Our lead character, Sage, is thrown into a destiny that upends all she knew about her own past and family. I enjoyed following Sage's journey as she learned of prophecy and magic while finding her role in the world of Alandria. The academy setting was perfect for this story, as it allowed the reader to learn alongside Sage. The supporting characters were all interesting as well and I can't wait to learn more about them. I found the section from the villain's POV to be an especially interesting read. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

PLOT SUMMARY:
Laura is the most skeptical person she knows, aside from budding physicist Henrie. Ghosts are bedtime stories and fodder for Hollywood movies. They aren’t real, but that’s why they make for a compelling documentary subject. Granted, filming a ghost hunting documentary wasn’t exactly what she had in mind when she set out to win a competition for young documentary makers, but what mattered was winning. For a media production major, like Laura, it should have been easy.
Spooky location? Check.
Eager team? Check.
Laminated production schedule? Check.
Except as Laura and the rest of the Phantom Trackers, Gus, Blake, and Henrie discover, ghost hunting isn’t easy. First, Blake screws everything up by announcing to the world, Laura is psychic (she isn’t), then strange happenings begin. Ones that grow more difficult to explain with each occurrence.
Fredriksten fortress is not only one of the oldest buildings in Norway, it’s hiding a centuries’ old secret.

MY REVIEW: A spooky adventure with a fun dynamic between the cast of characters. I really enjoyed reading Phantom Trackers. My favorite details were the haunting elements and how the setting was described. Each of the four main characters have their area of expertise in the ghost hunting documentary. As the story progresses, you get to see how each uses their skill sets and how their differences in personalities affect their beliefs about the ghost they are searching for. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel to this book. I think the world that the author has created has a lot of potential for more.

MY REVIEW: A pirate novel full of twists, turns, and stabbing - sometimes in the back. I understand why pirates don't take vacations now. This was an anime beach episode gone wrong, with threats lurking around every corner. Caraway is a very present main character. I often find side and supporting characters taking the center stage, the comic relief a personal favorite of mine. Even though this novel does contain lovable and charming characters, none of them steal the show. This is Caraway's story. I appreciated the complex relationship she had with her brother. It felt realistic for the world and the roles they played in it. There are some fun moments of found family and romance. I loved the character growth we see with Caraway and am looking forward to the sequel.

PLOT SUMMARY:
In the not-so-distant future, eighteen-year-old computer hacker Mirabel “Bel” Solís lives under a fabricated identity after her parents were killed by crime syndicate operatives, while she and her older brother Mateo fear the wrath of a crime boss who remains on the loose.
When things go south, Bel and Mateo escape to the wilderness, where Bel picks up an unusual signal. Thinking they’ve stumbled onto a high-tech doomsday bunker that may be the safe haven they need, Bel hacks the security system and lands them both inside an underground smart mansion called the Submundo, which she soon learns is home to a beastly cyborg—and he isn’t happy to have visitors.
However, upon learning about Mateo's past as an information security expert, the young cyborg offers a deal: Help him obtain classified information about the people responsible for his physical condition, and he won't reveal Bel and Mateo to their enemies. But because the cyborg is hiding from his own enemies—and determined to trust no one—Bel must stay behind to ensure her brother’s cooperation until the mission is complete. The Submundo is vast enough that they won't ever have to interact.
Reluctantly, Bel agrees, but she has plans of her own, one of which is to find out who the cyborg really is—or, was—because anyone who has access to a place like the Submundo has to be someone important. In the process, she discovers that there might be an even bigger mystery to uncover, one that has grand-scale implications.
If Bel and the cyborg can work together, there may be a chance they can both come out of hiding for good—as long as the wrong people don’t find them first.

What would you do if the game you were playing suddenly becomes your reality?
Saga escapes her mundane life of modern stresses and anxieties, a failed relationship and a monotonous job by immersing herself in an online game. When dark whispers begin to invade her mind, she is pulled through a rift into a world eerily reminiscent of the game she plays.
